About Us
Philippe Coupey has been leading zazen at the Paris Zen Dojo for 30 years. In 2004, his Parisian disciples decided they would like to practice with him more often, and the small sangha began to sit zazen in an apartment in the Auteuil neighborhood of Paris' 16th arrondissement. A year later, the Association SeineZen was formed, establishing the group's nonprofit status and its affiliation with the Association Zen International (AZI). In 2006, we moved east, closer to Taisen Deshimaru's former neighborhood and Philippe Coupey's current one, in the 14th arrondissement.
We are a culturally diverse group (French, American, British, German, Vietnamese) open to anyone who would like to practice zazen in the tradition of Kodo Sawaki and Taisen Deshimaru. Beginners are welcome; the teaching is translated into English.
